Treo Hollywood sighted for reals?
Enough with that sketchwardo, sparkle blue, antenna-free Treo we've been seeing
around, these new pics seem to be more like the real "Hollywood" deal. Just as rumored, the phone is
slimmer than the 700 and 650, and antenna free as well. The profile actually looks a bit BlackBerry-esque, but the
front is all Treo. Palm OS loyalists among us won't be so excited to see Windows Mobile 5.0 running on this thing, but
just keep in mind Ed Colligan's
word that Palm OS isn't going anywhere, we're sure a Palm OS version of this unit will follow soon. There's no
carrier branding on this unit, but the tipster reported 67KB/s speeds on Cingular's UMTS 1900 network, along with a
300MHz processor, 1.3 megapixel camera, and that fairly tired 240 x 240 display. Of course, these pics are a bit
blurry, and we shouldn't expect the gospel truth on this device until Palm trots it out at a press conference (if
then), but it's looking good so far.

YEA FIRSTT POST AND THAT PHONE IS AWESOME. MIGHT GET THAT OVER THE MOTOROLA Q . HEY WHO NOS. BUT THAT PHONE IS HOT. LA TELEFONO ESTA CALIENTE.
Totalfixation @ Apr 19th 2006 2:28AM
I really want the Motorola Q but with the lack of a touch screen, Im with you on this JEFFBAXT, I might end up getting one once it comes out. Im also dissappoint with the P990i series from sonyericsson that would have been my first choice. They should have been smart and made the phone quad band at least. Im also glad non of these phones are out, im waiting for the auction in June, hoping to see T-mobile win the 2100mhz freq Band in June.
yoinkers @ Apr 19th 2006 2:38AM
240x240 display? Why the downgrade from the 650 display? Also, do you mean the fairly "tired" display instead of "tried" display as written. I know you guys are busy but you've let quite a few spelling mistakes slip in recently and they're not that hard to spot/correct. Still a killer site though!
viewer @ Apr 19th 2006 2:40AM
Motorola Q sucks...
i dunno why people even use blackberrys you can now run the same email service on a treo the treo is best smart phone in my opinion...
Ciber @ Apr 19th 2006 2:55AM
I'll start taking bets on it coming with 32 megs of ram...
Naruto @ Apr 19th 2006 3:12AM
I agree with # 3. The treo has the best of all worlds. I think businesses are just a little slow at adapting, so they continue to provide blackberrys.

Or that fact that a Blackberry is has almost bulletproof security, and Windows...well...we all know that the words Windows and secure should never be in the same sentence.
PEZ @ Apr 19th 2006 6:19AM
The Q and the treo are two different segments. The Q is a smartphone, while the treo is a pocket PC.
It depends on your needs.
Now, if the first 5 people who posted, would never do that again, there can be some order and intelligence brought to the comments area.
Thanks.

"...won't *be* so excited to see Windows Mobile 5.0..." just missing a word is all... anyways back to reading, keep up the good work, I only critique things I like haha.
Chris @ Apr 19th 2006 7:36AM
#4, early indications are that it will have 64 MB of RAM unlike the 700w.
seamonkey420 @ Apr 19th 2006 7:46AM
so yea.. basically a treo for GSM? hmm.. i'll stick with my Tmobile MDA anyday.. hehe...
never really liked the keyboard on the Treo 600 or 650 (our atty's at work all have them and we get to support them too!), too small for me and i have small hands..
as for emails, goodlink clients on an exchange server will work just like a Blackberry and better... :)
weatherman @ Apr 19th 2006 7:56AM
I expected more of a design change from a code-name like "Hollywood" - it does look thinner by a bit, and obviously the lack of antenna is a plus, but I think the overall Treo design is getting a little dated. I prefer the Nokia design.
Jason @ Apr 19th 2006 8:04AM
Palm... bringing you yesterday's technology at tomorrows prices!
Thank goodness they got the operation design figured out better than anyone else.
Rick @ Apr 19th 2006 8:08AM
I was going to buy an T-Mobile MDA (but actually liked the Cingular 8125 keyboard better) so I'll probably decide to just wait for the HTC Hermes. However I would buy a Treo (just like the form factor) IF it only was quad-band GSM AND had integrated WiFi.
Last time I mentioned WiFi some knucklehead climbed all over the comment. I think it's a real need and if HTC can do it, anyone should be able to if they have the technical chops. Let the user deal with battery life issues if they choose to use the feature. But without it, I'm sticking with all things HTC. My SP3i and SP5m have been the best smartphones I have ever owned.

This Treo is gorgeous! I want one!
Instead of the forum link, Treonauts had the first blog post about these pictures.

>>3. 240x240 display? Why the downgrade from the 650 display?
Have you been living in hole for the last year? Windows Mobile doesn't do 320 x 320. The current wondows mobile treo - the 700w - is also 240x 240, so this is not a downgrade. The Palm OS 650 is 320 x 320 (and the Palm OS 700p will also be 320 x 320) - there will be no downgrade to 240 x 240 for the Palm OS version.
BTW: the Motorola Q DOES suck (my company has had 1 for a few months now for dev purposes). And to the guy who says that it is an apples and oranges comparison because the motorol Q is Smartphone versus treo which is Pocket PC: while i would sort of agree, the fact is that MS has tried very hard to obliterate the line between both - both are offically called "Windows Mobile" now and do not even differentiate in their title - so it is purely a matter of geek site making the distinction now. Also: the fact is that it is exatly thye same market - comments here confirm that people consider it competition (along with Blackberrys).
Thought @ Apr 19th 2006 10:08AM
The real problem with getting this to market will be Cingular actually rolling out their 3G service to enough markets.
Right now Cingular lags horribly in their 3G rollout.
Aaron Fisher @ Apr 19th 2006 10:44AM
I might consider switching from Palm OS to Windows Mobile if it was on a Treo and a GSM network. Lets not forget Wifi and more storage.

@ #14
Are you blind? That thing is hideous! My Treo 600 CDMA is probably the nicest looking Treo to date, even with the antenna.

Great to see more Windows Mobile based Palm devices. This is just the begining.
JR @ Apr 19th 2006 1:25PM
Yoinkers:
I think the 240x240 screen is a limitation of Windows Mobile. The same thing happened with the 700w; for some reason, WM5 can't handle 320x320, even though it can do 320x240 just fine.
And I would submit that "tried" in lieu of "tired" would actually be somewhat harder to find, because it won't show up in most spelling/grammar checks.
Rayden @ Apr 19th 2006 2:52PM
This treo looks great but what the hell is up with this limit on screen resolution? Who is the idiot that instituted this? I will stick with my 650 until they produce a windows mobile smartphone with a minimum 640x480 resolution touchscreen. I know I will probably have to wait 5-7 years for this. ;) Why do we put up with this crap? 240x240 is just unacceptable.
Second, Motorola Q has great form factor, but lack of touchscreen means no mobile slingplayer and that is a deal breaker for me. I want my slingplayer TV!
CJ @ Apr 19th 2006 10:59PM
Look at that screen, then check the iPaq 6515 and Motorola Q, and then the HTC Wizard-sure looks like 320x240 to me, not the same screen shape as the 240x240.
